by Lyanna Yeow

St. John Bosco had a successful 2023-2024 regular season which ended with a record of 14-4-0 and the team placing 5th in the Varsity, Division 3 - Ridge Conference with 43 points. The season started with a 5-0 shutout against Villa Park and a successful Game 2 against Yorba Linda Hockey Club (W 6-2). After facing their first loss of the season in Game 3 against Servite 3, St. John Bosco used that unfortunate loss as fuel for their seven-game winning streak which spanned over Game 4 through Game 10. This winning streak ended after they faced a tough battle against Stockton in Game 11. However, this did not stop them from their three-game winning streak which spanned over Game 12 through Game 14. After losing their last game of the 2023-2024 regular season against Corona Norco 3 who had been hot all season long, they used that determination and hunger to win to fuel the team during the 2023-2024 playoffs. Semifinals: Both goaltenders had very strong performances throughout all three periods of the semifinals which remained scoreless and forced the teams to go into an intense overtime. St. John Bosco did have puck possession during overtime, however, Bishop Gorman 3 was able to score after capitalizing on their power play opportunity. Goaltender Nicholai Rubio’s determination to not let any goals in and keep the game 0-0 throughout all three periods of the game and most of overtime was remarkable. St. John Bosco’s efforts during the 2023-2024 regular season and playoffs were impressive despite the challenges they faced during the regular season and the semifinals.
