Beyond Bosco

Upon graduation, The Bosco Man will be an outstanding product of the Salesian educative model, advancing the legacy of the St. John Bosco brotherhood and the message of Jesus Christ. He will be prepared for the academic rigors of college and the opportunities for a professional career. Above all, he will be formed into a faith-driven leader of service for his family and his community.

All Bosco students complete a rigorous college preparatory curriculum designed to exceed the entrance requirements set by the University of California and California State University systems, as well as other prestigious universities. In 2019, 96 percent of graduates were accepted to a four-year university. Recent graduates are studying at some of the finest universities in the nation, including Princeton, Notre Dame, UCLA, Georgetown, UC Berkeley, MIT, Stanford, and USC. In fact, five members of the Class of 2019 are continuing their studies at Ivy League colleges and universities.

Salesian College Preparatory

College prep at St. John Bosco High School begins the moment our boys first set foot on campus. That doesn’t mean putting pressure on our students to make decisions right away; freshman year simply marks the beginning of our getting to know our students, what they’re capable of, and what kinds of experiences best suit the way they learn

Freshman year starts with a retreat where students are guided on a journey that helps to develop their intellectual passions and offers opportunities to participate in community service, leadership, and sports (if so inclined).

From then on, we follow up with individual guidance on selecting courses and activities that fit her college aspirations and personal interests. We answer questions about Honors and AP options, discuss SAT/ACT prep, suggest options for summer enrichment programs, and support our students in every way on their journey.

Advising and Guidance

St. John Bosco's team of professional counselors gets to know each student personally and helps them figure out what to consider as they start their college search. Counselors pride themselves on providing current info on the changing landscape of college admissions.

Our counselors maintain relationships with college and university admissions officers all across the country. During the school year, more than 130 college representatives visit our campus to meet with students and answer questions.

Search and Application Support

Our counselors guide students through the complexities of the search and application process, providing expertise and ensuring that students are aware of the opportunities available. We host educational workshops for parents and students and work with students as they write their essays, request letters of recommendation, and eventually, evaluate options once they’ve been accepted.
